New Year's Drive-out

Well...another year went by. We rang in 2014 with our 356 Porsche friends and went for a local San Diego area drive-out together. We started on the 5 South to the 94 East to Lyons Valley and through Alpine we were driving the winding roads in the hills East of San Diego area. There were about 24 of our San Diego Porsche friends who joined on this ride:  ten 356s, two 911s, and one 928. We have met at the organizer's home in Mission Hills and we had breakfast with scones and cappuccino. As always our group in a row was a head turner with the locals cheering. We ended our drive with a nice lunch at a new restaurant and then we all went our separate ways. What a great way to start the New year! Hopefully this would be an annual event. All cars performed flawlessly and there were some happy Personalized Autohaus customers as well,  who enjoyed their new year's drive. www.personalizedautohaus.com

Restoration of '64 Sunroof Coupe

Friends: Follow the Restoration of the 1964 356 Coupe that we have turned into a Sunroof Coupe. We are currently working on the transmission and engine assembly.
Let's see how the car looked like before the body and paint job:
Original paint was silver but has been painted several times - at one point it was a light blue shade

As you  see the '64 coupe with still intact roof
Original interior black leather seats and white headliner
The sunroof top came from another '64 coupe, which was rusted out but had a good roof and welded onto car as customer's request
Glenn Roberts and Eric Benner working on the new sunroof piece

Fast forward several months in the body shop and after sandblasting, rust repair and fresh coat of paint the car is back at Personalized Autohaus. The new color is race silver and interior upholstering will be red.

Car is back at the Personalized Autohaus after the paint process
Restoration under progress. Check out front suspension! A-arms are original; they've been reconditioned and painted.
 Wiring under way.
Rebuilt Transmission including Tall 4th Gear

We will be posting more pictures after the final assembly of the '64 sunroof coupe. So stay tuned!

Weekend Tours in San Diego county

It's a fun way to discover the neighborhood if you take your 356 or other Porsche out to exercise to one of the many enjoyable rides outside of San Diego. Wayne took a couple road trips with his friend and felllow 356 Club member Tom. One of these trips they went up to Ramona and took out the Carreras for a drive. Wayne took the 1974 Carrera nicknamed "Old Blue" who ran beautifully.

The other trip they took out to Campo east county. Over 100 miles going on back roads in mountains through Alpine. Again, it's another great trip to get out and exercise the cars! Wayne drove the black '59 356 "Wally" and Tom the red '63 356. Both needed the heater to be on, because it was a chilly out there.

Trust Personalized Autohaus wihen you're looking to buy a Porsche 356

1964 356 Coupe's previous owners Dona and Julia R. relieved to have happy new owner Sandy A. for their precious vehicle.

A little about 356 Coupe history: In the eye's of many collectors and enthusiasts, it was the best of the line. It was the most advanced, developed and sophisticated in the series. The problems and shortcomings of the early 356 models had all been worked out by the time production began on the 356C. The 1582cc overhead valve opposed four-cylinder engine was capable of producing 75 horsepower. The four-wheel disc brakes was more than adequate to stop the small 82.7 inch wheelbase vehicle while the four-wheel independent suspension was very mature and its handling characteristics were nearly flawless.

Contact Personalized Autohaus if you are looking to purchase a vintage Porsche or need a PPI pre-purchase inspection by the expert Wayne Baker owner call (858) 586-7771 and check out the current cars for sale: http://www.personalizedautohaus.com/Cars_for_Sale.php

1983 Porsche 956 C Coupé

The potential of the 956 unfolds. Porsche again wins the World Endurance Championship, Jacky Ickx secures his second consecutive world championship title. Twelve 956 vehicles are delivered to private motorsport customers. Bob Wollek not only wins the European Endurance Championship in a Joest Racing Porsche sportscar but also takes overall victory at the Deutschen Rennsport Meisterschaft (German Racing Championship), for which the Frenchman is again rewarded with the Porsche Cup as the most successful private driver. In Japan, Australia´s Vern Schuppan secures the Group C Drivers‘ Championship in a 956. The manufacturers‘ title goes to Porsche.

In the United States Wayne Baker claims the IMSA GTO Championship in a Porsche 934, whilst Porsche’s US sports boss Al Holbert collects the GTP category title driving a March Porsche featuring 956 technology.

At the Le Mans 24 Hour race Hurley Haywood, Al Holbert and Vern Schuppan drive the works 956 with starting number three to victory ahead of team mates Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell. Whilst the new works driver Stefan Bellof together with Jochen Mass retire in the third works 956 with engine damage, Porsche customer teams secure eight of the top ten places, with Philippe Alliot, Mario and Michael Andretti carrying off third place in their Kremer Porsche. Only ninth position goes to Peter Sauber´s BMW team.
At the Geneva Motor Salon in April the new Formula 1 engine is presented: the TAG Turbo – made by Porsche (internal code: TTE P01 V6). The V6 with an 80 degree cylinder bank angle, developed by Hans Mezger, is unusually light and compact. With all accessories the vehicle weighs 150 kilos. Bore: 82 mm, stroke 47.3 mm, displacement 1,499 ccm. Porsche states the performance of the engine built for the McLaren team as ca. 600 hp at between 10,000 and 11,500 revolutions per minute. Initial tests in the 956 take place on Porsche’s test circuit in Weissach – shortly afterwards the new six cylinder is implanted into a McLaren chassis for the first laps in Weissach – at the wheel sits Porsche engineer Roland Kussmaul.
On 28 August McLaren pilot Niki Lauda races the new engine in Zandvoort (NL) for the first time. At just the fourth race – at the South African Grand Prix in Kyalami – Lauda is swift enough in his MP4 1/E to hunt the leading Patrese from second place, only to be stopped by a problem with the electronics. The engine now delivers 700 hp. Over winter Porsche continues developing at high speed.

956 C Coupé

On the engine side Porsche pushes ahead with further developments – the FIA, the sport’s governing body, announces: From 1984 only 510 litres are allowed for a 1,000 kilometre race instead of the currently permitted 600 litres of fuel. Porsche introduces an electronic fuel injection, increases the compression to 8.5 and achieves considerably better performances. One of the works cars featuring the new technology grinds to a standstill in Le Mans. But the factory – and hence the customers – are prepared for the following year. At this stage no one can know that FIA will back out in 1984, sparking off a furore.
